Menu plan time! I have found the little recipe index that I talked about last week to be extremely helpful in remembering the recipes I have spied in magazines that I want to prepare. I am very excited about this week’s spread!
Saturday – Grilled Rib-Eye Steaks with Gorgonzola-Walnut Potatoes and Yogurt Cake with Arkansas Fresh Strawberries (our first of the season!!) and Vanilla Whipped Cream
Sunday – Brunch: Eggs, Bacon, Grits, Almost-Too-Easy Buttermilk Biscuits; Supper: Seared Tuna Steaks with Strawberry-Avocado Salad
Monday – Creamy Fettucini with Proscuitto, Asparagus, Mushrooms and Peas
Tuesday – Carne Adobada with Avocado Salad with Spicy Vinaigrette and Flour Tortillas
Wednesday – Falafel with Pita and Yogurt Sauce
Thursday – Cauliflower and Caramelized Onion Tart (a carryover from last week I never got around to making)
Friday – Leftovers
Other – Granola Bars
We had a terrific family outing this morning to see Disney on Ice. We all had a very fun time, but after a very long week of Matt being gone on business for the better part of two days, we are very ready to settle in tonight for a delicious meal as a family. Life is good!

As the mother of a couple picky eaters, I must ask – do Jack and Charlotte eat these wonderful things you cook? I have one child that is willing to try everything, one that is hesitant to try something new and 2 that are very hard to please. I’m just curious if your kids are picky about what you make?

Thanks, everyone!
Brenda, Jack and Charlotte are great about trying just about anything I put in front of them. Jack tends to like just about anything (a boy after his daddy’s heart!) but Charlotte is often a tougher sell. I make it a point in menu planning to cook a few things each week that are sure bets, and a couple that are something new, just to keep exposing them to different flavors and opening them up to liking new things. I have found that the more I expose them to something (caramelized onions, for instance), the more likely it is they will finally develop a taste for it.
I’m glad you asked this question! I actually get asked that quite a bit, and I suppose the reason J & C have taken to many of these things so well is that they’ve never had any other choice! LOL! When it comes down to it, I suppose it might sound selfish to admit that my goal has always been to have my kids like the things I want to cook so I don’t wind up having to plan and prepare two (or more) dinners each night!
If you meet resistence in trying something new, my best advice would be to start off slowly, trying one new thing a couple of times a week, but always making sure to have a couple of sure bets (a veggie they like, and perhaps some rice or potatoes) on the table as well. That way, they can sample the new item, and if it isn’t to their liking, they can eat the tried-and-true favorites. I hope this helps!
