Something about the back-to-school season leaves me with an organizing itch, and this year my mind is set on getting my new creative space in tip-top shape. Today’s easy craft idea is one that turns a stack of eclectic vintage plates into a lovely tiered stand perfect for organizing everything from buttons and pins to trims, thread and other notions. Not a sewist? This same concept would be terrific for craft organization, jewelry organization, office organization and more! Read on for the full how-to.
For this project, you will need…
- 3 vintage plates in ascending sizes: small, medium and large
- 2 candlesticks
- 1 small decorative accent (optional)
- E-6000 adhesive
Apply a ring of E-6000 around the bottom edge of one of the candlesticks. Position it at the center of the largest plate; press down firmly to adhere. Apply a ring of adhesive to the top edge of the same candlestick, and center the medium plate on top of the candlestick in a similar fashion. Repeat the same process with the remaining candlestick and the smallest plate.
If desired, affix a decorative accent of some sort to the top of the stand, like the bird seen here, centering it on top of the smallest plate. When everything is adhered, set the stand aside to dry for at least 24 hours before use.
You are finished! Wasn’t that easy?
I love that the presenting all of my sewing notions on pretty plates allows me to showcase them and all of their vibrant colors. It also helps keep them easily accessible, which is a must when I am in the midst of a project. Organization never looked so chic!
Curious to see why mini clothespins are one of my must-have sewing supplies? Check out this post for the answer.
Although I use this stand for sewing organization, this same idea would be a perfect solution for organizing scrapbooking embellishments, beads, ribbon, or just about anything else craft-related. It would also be perfect for office supplies, or even jewelry. The sky really is the limit!
Thanks so much for making PS a part of your day!
