Fall is such a fun time to grab some crafting supplies to make craft projects to enjoy at home or give as gifts. This easy pumpkin Mason jar is a cute handmade fall decor idea, but it is also wonderful to give as a sweet gift when filled with seasonal candies or even jar mixes for cookies or muffins. And the great news is every part of the painting for this project can be done with the same versatile paint from Apple Barrel, which happens to come in a super affordable and handy set! Read on for all the details.

Pumpkin Mason Jar Supplies
- Empty Clear Mason Jar with Lid Ring and Lid Insert
- Apple Barrel® Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic Paint Set – Colors used here: Outrageous Orange, True Green, Classic Caramel, White
- Paint Brushes
- Contact Paper (Optional)
- Wood Finial
- Hot Glue
- Ribbon
Use a brush to apply the orange paint on the outside surface of the jar, applying a thin, even coat. I like the semi-translucent look of applying just one coat to this project, but if a more opaque finish is desired, allow the first coat of paint for a half hour before applying a second coat in the same fashion. Set the jar aside to dry completely.
One cute option for jars that will be used for cookie or muffin mixes is to cut an oval of contact paper and affix it to the jar to work as a mask as you paint. These creates a fun peek-a-boo window to see the layered ingredients in the finished mix!
Paint the lid ring and round lid insert with the green paint and the wood finials with the caramel paint. Allow all pieces to dry completely.
One really fun thing about the Apple Barrel Multi-Surface Paint Set is the creative license the colors give you to mix and blend to achieve innumerable different colors just from one collection of 16 paints! I opted to mix the orange and white paint to create a lighter orange…
…which I used to paint cute stripes on the outside of the jar to mimic the look of a real pumpkin. Cute!
When all of the paint is totally dry, affix the wood finial to the top of the jar insert. Finish, if desired, with some pretty fall-colored ribbon.
Now, all that is left to do is to fill the pumpkin Mason jar with your favorite fall treat (candy corn, anyone?) or even a fall cookie or muffin mix. These make such fun gifts!
