Ready or not, the holiday season is almost upon us! If you are going to be welcoming guests into your home over the course of the next few weeks, I have a couple of tips for making sure your home will be an inviting place they’ll be happy to visit.
Give your home a thorough cleaning, paying special attention to the areas guests will be spending the most time.
There is no more effective way to ensure your home makes the best possible impression with house guests than to give it a good cleaning. If you’re wanting to ensure you cover all of the spots that guests are sure to notice, be sure to check out this post which goes into detail about those spots. For right now, though, let’s focus especially on the two areas that will make the biggest difference in your guest experience: the bathroom and bedroom they’ll be using during their stay. Make sure to vacuum floors well, focusing not only on the obvious open spaces, but also on the areas under the bed and furniture. Get rid of any cobwebs in the ceiling corners, and make sure blinds and drapes are dust-free. The closet should have ample space for guests to easily hang their clothes. In the bathroom, in addition to tackling the floors, toilet, sink, and bathtub or shower, focus on the areas around the toilet and under the base of cabinets. They are magnets for yucky stuff!
This might sound like a HUGE list, but with the right tool for the job, it can really be simplified. I shared about how much I love my new BISSELL PowerGlide vacuum last month, and as I think about the upcoming holiday rush, I know it is going to be put to lots of good use! My favorite feature is still the Lift-Off Technology that allows me to pull the vacuum canister off of the base, turning the vacuum into a fully-powered portable secret weapon for tackling everything from window treatments to stairs and baseboards. For even more specifics on the PowerGlide and why I love it so much, head over to my pre-holiday cleaning post.
Create a welcome station to make guests feel at home.
In the bedroom where my guests will be staying, I always love to include a few special items on the nightstand to create a sort of welcome station that they can enjoy during their stay. Some items I like to include:
- Favorite books and magazines
- A special framed photo
- A potted plant that can double as a gift that guests can take home when they depart

During the holiday season, nothing can make a better impression on guests than to invest a bit of extra time to ensure their stay is a memorable one. I hope these tips today have inspired you to give your guests the royal treatment this year!
