Summer is such a fun time to whip up fun, creative treats, since there are so many great occasions to celebrate! These adorable Nutter Butter flip flops are tasty, super cute, and oh so easy to make (even with little helpers!), and they would be perfect for serving at any summer gathering. Continue reading for all the details for how these Nutter Butter flip flops are made with handy supplies from Michaels!
Supplies for Nutter Butter Flip Flops:
- Nutter Butter Cookies
- Wilton Candy Melts: Bright White, Yellow and Turquoise
- Sweetshop Fondant: Pink and Lime Green
- Wilton Icing Decorations
Supplies: Baking Sheet, Parchment Paper, Mini Rolling Pin
Melt the bright white candy melts in a small bowl according to the package instructions. Dip one side of each of the Nutter Butters into the candy coating and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. If desired, spread the coating smooth with a butter knife. Place pan in the freezer and chill for 15 minutes, until candy coating is firm.
Dip the other side of each cookie into the melted colored candy coating in a similar fashion. Return dipped cookies to the same parchment-lined pan and chill in the freezer for 15 minutes more.
While the cookies chill, grab your fondant. Y’all, this stuff is so fun to work with! Michaels has a rainbow of fun colors of this pre-made Sweetshop Fondant in their cake decorating and candy making section. I am finding myself wanting to use it on so many edible projects now that I know how easy and fun it is. (It’s almost like working with edible modeling clay!)
Pinch off a small section of the fondant, and knead it a few times with your fingers to soften. Place the fondant onto a parchment-lined surface, and use a mini rolling pin (this is one of my favorite little kitchen tools!) to roll it to 1/8″ thickness. Use a butter knife to trim off the uneven outer edges to form a rectangle.
Cut the rectangle into even strips that are about 1/4″ wide.
When the cookies are thoroughly chilled and the candy coating has hardened, wrap two of the fondant pieces around each cookie as shown to form flip flop “straps.”
Finish by pressing on a decorative candy embellishment. (The embellishments should stick to the fondant, but if they seem to not be secure, use a small dab of the melted candy coating to anchor them in place.)
Your adorable Nutter Butter Flip Flops are complete!
