Our entire family absolutely loves the Minions from the Despicable Me movies, and we are so excited that on July 10 in theaters, we will be able to go see the cute little guys in their very own movie to show where the Minion story all began! To celebrate, we decided to have a fun Minions summer party to get us in true Minions spirit, complete with some fun activities and yummy snacks. Let me fill you in on all the details!
This post is brought to you by Universal Pictures. All opinions are entirely my own.
Minions Party Food and Decorations
What I loved most about this party spread was how incredibly easy it was to put together. By sticking with a yellow and blue color scheme (in true Minion form), the party decorations were instantly coordinated with the Minions theme. I used a blue tablecloth, some fun yellow and white oversized tissue paper pom-poms and some fringe garland to anchor the food table display.
For the backdrop, I drew a cute greeting in “Minion-ese” on my DIY chalkboard using yellow and white chalk. This was a hit with all of the kids!
With the decorations in place, it was time to add some yummy Minion-worthy snacks to the mix. Lemonade drink pouches were perfect for the yellow and blue theme of the party. I opted to keep things light and healthy for our mid-afternoon gathering by serving up a fruit tray with my easy vanilla fruit dip. For the dip, beat one 8-ounce package of cream cheese until smooth. Add one 7-ounce container of marshmallow cream, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and 2 tablespoons orange juice, beating until smooth.
The kids and I made some yummy Minions snack mix, which includes dry cereal, blue and yellow M&M’s, and (of course!) plenty of dried bananas, since Minions and bananas are a match made in heaven. The mix also included some cute alphabet mini pretzels that are perfect for spelling out cute little messages in Minion language.
To make a batch of Minions Mix, stir together the following in a large bowl: 2 cups mini pretzels, 2 cups blueberry Frosted Mini Wheats cereal (we used this to stick with the color scheme of the party, but plain Mini Wheats can be substituted), 1 cup dried bananas, and 1 cup blue and yellow M&M’s.
I opted to serve the snack mix in small yellow paper cups lined with blue tissue paper. Easy and tidy!
Minions Party Activities
Armed with our fun Minions pool gear, the kids had a blast swimming and playing with their friends. The cute beach balls were a hit with everyone!
And, when everyone needed a bit of a break from the sun, we brought the fun indoors with some cute Minions Play-Doh sets that were a hit even with the older kids at the party. I mean, what’s not to love about making your own 3-D Minion? Playing dress-up in Minions masks also made for some zany indoor fun.
I know our family will definitely be heading to the theater on July 10 to catch a showing of Minions together. I can’t wait to see all of Kevin, Stuart and Bob’s adventures as they travel all around the world to find a new super villain for the Minions to follow, all set to a terrific soundtrack of great songs from the 60’s. I hope you’re inspired to head out to enjoy the movie with your own family, and then bring the fun home for a Minions-themed fiesta!
