I saw something online yesterday that literally took my breath away. Typed in bold lettering across the top of a photo of two young children enjoying a front porch popsicle together was a simple, straightforward message:
You only get 18 summers with your children. How will you spend them?
It is hard as parents to strike a balance between the technology that children all seem to love and the engaging, meaningful activities that are so vital to their development. This summer, instead of resorting to video games and endless loops of mindless television, I am making a commitment to make the most of these three short months by dedicating myself to opening doors of learning and creativity for my children.
One way you can join me in making this summer meaningful is by joining me in the Summer Adventure Challenge with Michaels!
Available on the Michaels website is the Unplugged Summer Pact available for anyone to sign. The idea is simple: whittle down the technology-driven hours in your day, and step back to behold the magic that unfolds.
How will you spend your technology-free hours? At the pool? At the library? On a nature hike, or a neighborhood scavenger hunt, or at the park? Summer is beckoning with so many fantastic memory-making opportunities. Two fewer hours each day of electronics + one summer = a treasure trove of wonderful memories. Are you in, because I sure am!
If you are on the lookout for a great activity to engage your children this summer, the Passport to Imagination program at Michaels is a great place to start!
Starting next week, children are invited to flex their creative muscles in an around-the-world creative adventure. With colorful, inventive crafts and projects, these two-hour (and just $2!) sessions are just the ticket for keeping children thinking creatively. You can choose to attend each session, or just pick and choose the ones for you. Contact your local Michaels store to reserve your spot.
Thanks so much to Michaels for sponsoring today’s conversation. I hope you’re inspired to make the most of these fleeting summer months!

18 summers – that truly is a profound statement! I had a similar thought just the other week as I noticed how quickly my daughter is growing up. I’ve decided to include her in a few activities that I do on my own so that we can spend more time together. Now she and I are training to run a 5k race by the end of the summer and she is becoming my “assistant” and learning the new part of our business of hand pouring candles. Now that we have this time together, I have already learned more about her. It truly is the little things that make the biggest impact!

What a wonderful thing to involve her in the craft of your business, Tracy! She will learn so much!
