This post is brought to you by Krylon. // Handmade Christmas ornaments make a lovely gift that can be appreciated for years to come, and anything with lots of shine and sparkle is sure to stand out from the crowd! Krylon Looking Glass spray paint and a bit of glitter come together with simple glass bulbs in these pretty iridescent glitter Christmas ornaments, which are so simply made, even kids can help with the process. Read on for all the details.
For this project, you will need…
- Plain glass bulb ornaments
- Krylon Looking Glass paint
- Extra-fine white glitter
- Ribbon, washi tape and other embellishments
Directions:
- Remove the hanger from the ornament, and set aside.
- In a well-ventilated area, spray the Looking Glass paint directly into the opening of the ornament, swirling so that the paint coats the enter inner surface of the ornament. Try not to over-spray (2 small bursts will do). Flip the ornaments over to drain over some paper towels lined along the bottom of a small box. (A shoe box works well for this purpose.) Allow the paint to dry for 15 minutes before applying another coat. Repeat process until you have achieved the desired level of mirror effect.
- While the paint is still wet on the final coat, carefully pour glitter into the top of the ornament. Swirl the glitter so it coats the entire inner surface of the bulb. Set the ornaments aside to dry completely, about 1 hour.
- Replace the hanger portion of the ornament. Embellish further with a ribbon bow, some washi tape, or any other elements or baubles that strike your fancy.
- You are finished! Hang on the tree and enjoy, or wrap up to surprise a special someone.
The mirror-like look of the Looking Glass paint combines with the glitter for a really ethereal effect. So pretty!
I love the look of using decorative tape at the center of the ornaments, as I’ve done here, but you could also use paint pens to add a monogram or any other design. There are so many possibilities! (The numbers here are from a roll of fabric tape I purchased a few years ago.)
