Learn how to make felt shamrocks with this easy tutorial. A great St. Patrick’s Day craft idea to make and wear or use as decoration!
Felt shamrock embellishments are so quick and easy to make, and they are the perfect way to add a bit of flair to your St. Patrick’s Day crafts! Today, I’ll fill you in on all of the details for how to make some lucky felt four-leaf clovers of your own. These are so fun to make and string on a garland, or you can glue a pin back onto one of these felt shamrocks to add an instant pop of green to your St. Patrick’s Day outfit.

For this project, you will need…
- Green felt
- Shears
- Embroidery needle and thread
- Hot glue
To begin, cut the leaves for your shamrock. For each one, cut out 4 leaf pieces that are basically a modified heart shape with the bottom point removed. If desired, you can also cut out 2 bottom accent “tail” pieces, pictured below.
Note: If you want a ready-made template to use in cutting out the pieces, grab the pattern pieces for my felt leprechaun pants treat bags.
Fold one of the leaf pieces in half lengthwise. With the folded edge of the leaf facing down, pass the threaded embroidery needle through the bottom, as shown.
Continue adding each leaf in a similar fashion until all four are on the needle.
Pull the needle through, and then tie the tails tightly into a knot, gathering each leaf tightly as you work.
Now, fluff and adjust the leaves as needed before affixing the bottom accent pieces to the back with hot glue. Your shamrock is complete!
There are so many options to make these in any number of sizes. I like to make a smaller and larger shamrock to create stacked shamrocks, too.
Imagine the possibilities for these: strung on garlands, added to wreaths, worn as an extra touch of green to stay pinch-proof on St. Patrick’s Day, and more!

Obviously you are not Irish. If you were, you’d know that shamrocks have only 3 leaves!

Paţ, I was going to comment the same thing! These are four leaf clovers, not shamrock.
