Along with the “bee” theme of this week’s terrific giveaways (stay tuned for round 2 of the What Will it Bee? Party later today!), I have decided to incorporate bees into the decor in the baby’s nursery. This wall canvas idea was the result of my desire to mesh the bee motif with an alphabet sampler. I love the colorful, modern appeal of the project, but what I might love even more was how quick and easy it was to put together!
For this project, you will need…
18×24 Blank Canvas
Repositionable Contact Paper
Spray Paint
Silhouette Die Cutting Machine (or a Hexagon Template and Scissors)
Bee Design Purchased from Silhouette Store (bee_C01049_23067) and Black Adhesive Vinyl (or a Purchased Bee Sticker)
Assorted Letter Stickers (I used Thickers by American Crafts for their terrific dimension!)
step 1 / Use your Silhouette to cut 3-inch hexagon shapes from your Contact paper. Alternatively, create a 3-inch hexagon template using your word processing software, and then trace it onto your contact paper and carefully cut out with scissors. You will need a hexagon shape for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet, plus 3-4 extras to go on the outer perimeter of your canvas. Adhere your hexagons in a grid on your canvas, as shown, leaving approximately 1/4″ between the outer boundaries of each one. Wrap the edges of any hexagons that fall at the outer edge of your piece around the edge of the canvas, as shown, so that the edges of your canvas have a polished look, as well. Carefully spray 2-3 layers of paint onto your canvas, taking care not to overspray during each application.
step 2 / Once your canvas has dried completely, carefully remove your hexagon shapes. Place a letter sticker within the boundaries of each hexagon, one for each letter of the alphabet. Cut your bee design from your vinyl, and adhere that in place of the letter B.
All finished!

Just wondering if you have had any problems with the paint bleeding under the paper that you adhere? I have a project I’ve been wanting to do, but wasn’t sure if my pieces would stick well enough on the canvas.
Thanks!
