Crafting handmade cards for special occasions is such a nice way of showing you care, and as an added bonus, handmade cards also are much easier on a budget than purchasing ready-made cards. Today I’m sharing some cute and simple note cards I made using my CAMEO and the brand-new Silhouette Sketch Pen Starter Kit.
One of my biggest money-saving tips is to never, ever, ever spend $5 on a store-bought card. I have been making my own cards for every occasion under the sun for many years now, and between birthdays, anniversaries and other milestones, I once calculated that it saves me close to $200 each and every year!
I have always loved to stamp cute images on the note cards I cut out with my Silhouette, but the sketch pens from Silhouette take care of that step for me. With dozens of cute designs to choose from in the Silhouette Online Store, the sketch pens effectively turn any Silhouette machine into a printer of sorts that can produce sketches that look like they are done by hand. Simply replace the blade in your machine with one of the 24 pens in the set, hit “cut” and watch the magic unfold!
These pens would be perfect for making anything from cards like mine to home decor items, and you could even embellish and customize goody bags for birthday parties. There are so many possibilities.
With the current Silhouette promotions running now through March 31, using the code POSITIVELY will get you some terrific deals on a new Silhouette machine, the sketch pen stater kit, or all of the above.

Question: Do I just place the card onto the cutting mat (hope it sticks) and center the measurements with the screen ruler and the cutting mat ruler and hope for a centered image?? Or are you cutting the card out after your image is cut to make sure it’s centered? Such a great idea! I have the sketch pens but have not tried them yet.
Amy @ Positively Splendid says
Chrissy, what I did is create my entire card, including the shape and the sketch design, all in the same file. I then deleted the card outline and used the sketch pens to sketch the design. With the design sketched, I left the cardstock on the mat, replaced the pen with my blade, and hit “undo” to replace the card outline on the file. When the card outline is back in place, you then can delete the sketch design, and then hit cut. That way, everything will be nice and centered! I hope this makes sense. 🙂
