Among my immensely talented blogging friends, Lindsay from The Cottage Home and The Cottage Mama Sewing Patterns is particularly near to my heart. She and I started blogging almost precisely at the same time. We both have incredibly talented mamas who have gifted us with a profound love of creating things with our own hands. We are the same age, with birthdays just 2 days apart. In other words, we are something akin to crafting soul sisters. I count myself blessed to call her a friend!
When Lindsay approached Mama Reita and me recently to review one of her four latest patterns, we jumped the the opportunity. Longtime readers might recall the review we did last year of her darling Charlotte Apron dress. This time around, we were thrilled to receive the George Vintage Dress pattern, a lovely, lively riff on the classic designs Lindsay is so acclaimed for.
Lindsay has made a name for herself by taking timeless designs and making them entirely fresh and modern with her own creative twist. The Georgia Vintage Dress pattern is no exception. I have to say that this dress is, by far, the most stunning dress my mom has ever made for either of my girls. When I first opened the box, I squealed with delight. Who wouldn’t? Charlotte couldn’t wait to try on her pretty new dress and take it for a twirl.
The fullness of the pinafore and skirt gives the dress a sweet, playful silhouette…
…while the details of the Peter Pan collar and sweet flutter sleeves are delightfully vintage. (A variation of the pattern allows for a sleeveless option, as well.)
The sash tie at the back is one of my favorite features of all.
As she sewed, Mom said she loved the fact that she was able to easily customize the look of the dress with various trims, piping and other embellishments, and, just like all of the Lindsay’s patterns, the process to construct the dress was thoughtfully, thoroughly described.
Each of the new Cottage Mama patterns is available in both PDF and paper formats, with the paper version printed beautifully in full color.
Lindsay’s new book, Sew Classic Clothes for Girls: 20 Dresses, Outfits, and Accessories from The Cottage Mama, debuts on October 7, but you can preorder a copy starting next month. I can’t wait to add a copy to my own creative library!
Be sure to check out the other stops on the pattern tour to enjoy the gorgeous garments created by other talented sewists using Lindsay’s new patterns. And thank you to Lindsay for including me in such a lovely group!
