I was the lucky recipient of a darling little outdoor bench from one of my dearest friends a couple of summers back, but I recently started noticing that the wear and tear of the seasons had taken its toll on its appearance.
That’s putting it lightly.
In poor blogging form, I neglected to take a before picture, but these photos I took of my Patriotic Outdoor Pillow set last month will give you the basic idea. This piece was in need of some serious TLC.
I love spray paint. LOVE it. I find there are few things that give you more bang for your decorating buck than a can of your chosen shade, and the dry time is incredibly fast, even with the hideous humidity we’ve been experiencing here of late. Dismantling the bench and giving it a thorough cleaning was definitely the most tedious step here. The painting was a piece of cake, although I will admit that with a project that contains this many detailed pieces, you do need to allow yourself a good 3-4 days to allow adequate time to apply a sufficient number of coats to all of the nooks and crannies.
And while I was sprayin’, I figured I’d also give this sign I picked up on super-duper clearance (90% off!) at Hobby Lobby last month a coordinating update. To apply the different colors, I simply taped off the flourishes while I painted the words, and vice versa. I love how everything goes together so beautifully now!
And, well, since we all know I can’t leave well enough alone (and since I suppose mid-August means it’s HIGH time to pack away my Independence Day pillows, yes?), I made a new set of pillow covers, too! More on these is on tap for tomorrow, but here’s a little sneak to pique your curiosity. 🙂 Oh, how I do love Krylon Ivy Leaf! Isn’t this the best color?

I love how you redid the bench.
You were able to use items you had on top of it.
