Kelly from Smart School House is here today to share a sweet idea to make and tuck into your holiday gifts this year: homemade cinnamon-sugar packets!
Hello! I’m Kelly from Smart School House. It’s so nice to meet you!
Smart School House is a place to find pretty handmade ideas for your children, your home, your sweet tooth, and your crafty side.
‘Tis the season for handmade gifts! I just love a pretty handmade gift, especially a gift with sugar! Today, I’m here to share these easy DIY Cinnamon Sugar Packets with you:
Aren’t they so cute?! Sugar makes everybody happy and cinnamon is the spice of the season. Do you have fond childhood memories of cinnamon sugar sprinkled on whipped cream or morning toast? Me too! Nowadays, I prefer to use cinnamon sugar in my coffee or latte. These DIY cinnamon sugar packs are a perfect way to bring back those wonderful memories! They are the same size as the prepackaged sugar packets you find at restaurants and stores. Simply rip them open and sprinkle them on whatever you desire!
I included these packets as an accent to all of the handmade gifts I’ve made this year. I used plain organic sugar from the grocery store as well as powdered cinnamon. The cinnamon sugar mixture I made was 2 parts sugar and 1 part cinnamon powder. To make the packets, you only need a few simple supplies that you might already own or that can be found at your local craft store:
Card stock paper
Bakers Twine
Hot Glue
Start by cutting out rectangles that are approximately 2.75 inches by 3.75 inches. The cool thing about these packets is that you can choose the size that works best for you! I love crafts like that! It’s no-fail:)
Next, fold the paper and seal the bottom with a line of hot glue. You want to use a thick enough line of glue to prevent any of the sugar from coming out, but you don’t want to use so much glue that it can be seen from the outside. After the bottom of your packet is sealed, glue the center seal together with another line of hot glue. Now you should have an opening just like you see in picture #2.
Finally, find the cutest small scoop you own (because cute scoops will make you happy, it’s a fact) and gently pour a small amount of your cinnamon sugar mixture into the packet. Seal the end with hot glue and tie a bakers twine bow on top. How cute is that?! This cinnamon sugar can be used on cookies, muffins, coffee or anything your holiday-lovin’ mind can think of! This year I am giving away baskets filled with homemade jams, jellies, and pie filling. These DIY Cinnamon Sugar Packets make a beautiful basket stuffer!
