A+ Teacher Photo Collage (Teacher Appreciation Idea)

This week has been teacher appreciation week at my oldest son’s school, and I wanted to make a little something to give to his teacher to let her know how much we truly value all she does for her students. As I was considering what type of project to put together, I immediately thought of the Fathers’ Day Photo Collages we made last year for our dads. I knew that concept would be a perfect, personalized way to tell Jack’s teacher exactly why he loves her so much! These photo collages are quickly becoming one of my favorite gifts to give, because not only do they make the recipient feel truly special, but they are also a breeze to put together. You just can’t beat it!

The basic concept behind how I made this collage is identical to the process I used for the Fathers’ Day collages. Here’s how you can make one, too!

To start, download the free A+ Teacher Printable (scroll down for the download box). Then, head out and snap a photo of your child holding up a sign (I used a chalkboard speech bubble, available to buy from Kami at No Biggie) that tells his or her teacher what he loves most about him or her. If you don’t have chalkboard signs, no worries! A piece of posterboard and markers will work just fine, too.

Now, open up your Picasa software (available for FREE from Google), and create a 5×7 photo collage with the A+ Teacher file and the photo of your child. Not familiar with how to create a photo collage in Picasa? Refer to my Fathers’ Day Photo Collage post for a detailed step-by-step for exactly how to do so!

Hint: I found that the framed collage looks especially nice if you adjust the grid spacing in your collage to the midpoint between the minimum and maximum widths. This way, a bit of white is visible all the way around your photo once it is framed. 

Now, simply print your collage onto photo paper (or send it off to be printed professionally) and slip it into a frame. A classic red frame looks particularly nice here! 

This is one gift that certainly breaks the typical Starbucks gift card mold, and something that is sure to be cherished for many years to come! These would also make marvelous year-end teacher gifts for those of you who like to plan ahead. 🙂
