A Digital Walk Down Memory Lane

I have three active email accounts, all of which are literally bursting at the seams with messages. My nesting urge seems to be touching even on the digital realm of my life, as I was hit this week with a desire to weed out all of the junk. In the process, I was surprised and delighted to find my email archives to be a treasure trove of memories, and I thought I’d share some of the messages with you today.

Subject: I miss you.

Well you just got on the plane and I am sure sad. We had a great week. I hope that your trip goes well and that you get back safely. I cant wait to see you in 19 days. The countdown has already started for me. It is the only way that I can keep my sanity. I love you so much, sugar. You have my heart and you always will.

Background: Matt and I endured two years of a long distance relationship during our freshman and sophomore years of college. This message, one of the earliest in my email archive, was one he wrote to me just after we got to see each other during Thanksgiving break of our freshman year.

Subject: Happy Halloween!

Hello!
Jack had a fabulous first Halloween. We went to a carnival held at our church every year, and he loved watching all of the other children. His monkey costume was a hit, and thanks to Mammo and Papa, even his little shoes matched perfectly!

Subject: It’s a…!

Hello!
After two failed attempts to find out if we should start painting the nursery pink or blue, the third time was (thankfully!) the charm! We discovered Wednesday that we are adding a beautiful, bouncing baby GIRL to our family, and we couldn’t possibly be more excited!
All is healthy and going along just as it should, and we should be welcoming Jack’s new little sister some time around the 18th of August!

 She has lots of dark hair and looks very different from big bro and sis. Nursing like a champ and such a content little thing! Sleeping in my arms as I type. 🙂

Stumbling upon these messages and attached photos that transported me back to such sweet times in life gave me a new appreciation for the treasures that digital communications like these are. How simple it was to peruse my archived messages to see what I was doing 1, or 3, or 5 years ago. We are so blessed to live in an age when the technology of today makes it so simple to stay connected with our treasures from the past!
With photo slide shows like those available through Yahoo! mail, every email you share with loved ones of the important moments in your life can essentially serve as a scrapbook page of sorts. I count it such a blessing how much simpler it is to stay connected now, more than ever, with those who are far away.

    I do this too. My mom died a few years ago so reading her email is like getting a message of love from her. I can’t do it too often but sometimes when I miss her the most I’ll go back & read some of the sweet little emails she sent.
