Looking for an easy and adorable Easter craft idea that is perfect for tucking into Easter baskets or giving as a little gift to someone special? This darling carrot Mason jar is made with simple supplies, and it requires just minutes of active crafting time. Ready to see how this project comes together? Read on for all the details!
To make an Easter Carrot Mason Jar, you will need…
- Clean and empty quart-sized Mason jar with lid
- White chalk paint (I recommend FolkArt Home Decor Chalk Paint in White Adirondack)
- Green multi-surface acrylic craft paint (I recommend FolkArt Multi-Surface paint in Fresh Foliage)
- Paint brushes
- Adhesive vinyl or contact paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Decorative green paper
- White craft glue
- Green felt
- Hot glue
- Green ribbon (optional)
- Orange jelly beans
To begin, draw a carrot shape onto the back of the vinyl or contact paper with the pencil that is just large enough to cover the front side of the jar. Use scissors to cut out the carrot shape.
Affix the carrot shape to the smooth side of the jar (the one opposite the branded wording). Using a paintbrush, paint a thin coat over the entire outside surface of the jar with the white chalk paint, painting directly over the carrot piece. Apply 2 coats for even coverage, allowing the paint to dry to the touch between coats, about 15 minutes. Set the jar aside to dry completely.
Use a brush to paint the outer ring of the jar lid with the green craft paint. Set the ring aside to dry completely.
Trace around the inner circle lid piece of the jar with a pencil onto the back of the green decorative paper. Cut the circle out, and secure the paper to the metal circle piece with the white craft glue. When the lid ring is completely dry, slip the paper-covered metal piece inside the ring.
When the paint on the jar is completely dry, carefully peel off the vinyl carrot piece. (If any paint has seeped under the edge of the carrot, use a fingernail or a craft knife to carefully scrape it away.) Fill the jar with the orange jelly beans, and screw on the lid.
Cut a 3×10″ strip of green felt. Working at one of the long edges, cut slits from the edge of the felt to about 3/4″ from the opposite edge, leaving about 1/4″ in between each cut.
Starting at one of the short edges, roll up the piece to form a tassel, securing the end with a small dab of hot glue.
Affix the felt piece to the top of the jar with hot glue. If desired, tie a bow from the ribbon and affix it at the base of the felt piece for a decorative touch.
Your carrot Mason jar is complete!
I have to say that my favorite part of this project is the fun green tassel on top!
Not a fan of orange jelly beans? Substitute another orange candy like Reece’s Pieces!
