I love creating projects for each season to help decorate my girls’ bedroom door, and banners are always a hit. This sweet XOXO banner is anadorable, fun and a perfect valentine craft project to spruce up a little space in a home, classroom and more. Created with pre-cut wooden pieces and a bit of craft paint, you’ll be delighted to see how easily this project comes together. Let’s get started!
To create this XOXO banner valentine craft, you will need…
- Craftwood Flag Banner (2 sets)
- 2 Small Wood Letter X’s and 2 Small Wood Letter O’s
- 3×2.5-inch Wooden Heart Cutouts (2)
- Red, Pink and Turquoise Craft Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Hot Glue
Use the craft paint and glue to paint 3 flag banner pieces turquoise and 3 flag banner pieces pink, applying 2-3 coats for the desired finish. (Note: You will only use 1 of the flag pieces from the second set, so you can reserve the remaining 4 pieces for another project.) Paint the X and O letters white with the craft paint and foam brush. Paint the 2 wooden hearts red. Apply additional coats for the desired finish. Allow each painted piece to dry completely.
Lay out all painted pieces on a flat surface, and layer the elements as they will appear in the finished project. Affix the heart and letter pieces to their respective flag pieces with hot glue.
String all of the finished pieces onto the twine piece from one of the banner sets. (Or, if you’d rather, add even more color by stringing the pieces onto a piece of yard or colored twine.)
Your XOXO Valentine’s Day banner is complete!
This project would be perfect for displaying on a mantel, used to adorn a wreath, or hanging on a door, bookshelf and more. By switching out the color scheme, you can tailor it to fit your own decor, too. I absolutely love this particular color scheme for Valentine’s Day, though. It is so fresh and unexpected!
If you prefer, you could spell out any sentiment you wish on this banner: LOVE, HUGS, SWEET and many other words would be absolutely darling, too!
Thanks so much for stopping in to check out this project today!
