Add a patriotic pop of color to your home by stitching up a fun color block pillow in red, white and blue! Even for beginners, this is a simple, straightforward sewing project that can easily be accomplished in a short amount of time and with minimal fabric. I have provided a printable PDF tutorial to make creating a set of your own as simple as can be. Let’s get started!
For this project, you will need…
- 1/4 yard of red fabric (patterned or solid, whichever you prefer)
- 1/4 yard white fabric
- 1/4 yard blue fabric
- 1/2 yard of fabric for the back panel pieces (I used red twill)
- Coordinating thread
- 18″ pillow form
- Rotary cutter and mat (optional, but recommended)

Patriotic Color Block Pillow PDF Tutorial
All of the instructions for sewing these covers can be found in the PDF tutorial linked above, which you can download and print for your convenience.
Stitching up these pillows is as easy as can be, and they are such a fun way to add a touch of red, white and blue to your home decor. This particular pillow is going to live in my family room this summer, but I also have plans to make a set for our front porch, too!
I love the added interest of using the polka-dotted fabrics as I have done here, but these would also be fun stitched up in solids, or red, white and blue fabrics in a variety of designs and patterns.
I am so thrilled to be sharing this project as a part of the ULTIMATE red, white and blue roundup, which includes fun patriotic ideas from 110 bloggers!
