Infinity scarves are the perfect way to add a pop of color to your spring wardrobe, and the best part is, they can be whipped up in just a matter of minutes! Today I’m sharing all of the details for how to sew an infinity scarf using your favorite pretty fabric. Let’s get right to it!
For this project, you will need…
- 2 yards fabric (Any fabric that drapes nicely here works well: linen and jersey are two of my favorites)
- Coordinating thread
- Rotary cutter and mat
- Sewing machine
- Shears
- Hand sewing needle
Directions
- Using the rotary cutter and mat, cut a strip of fabric that is 12×72”.
- Fold the strip in half lengthwise. Using a 1/4” seam allowance, stitch along the long edge, leaving the two short edges open.
- Lay the piece flat on a work surface, so that the seamed edge runs along the bottom of the piece. At one of the ends, snip a small notch at top corner of the piece. (This notch should be directly opposite the seamed edge.)
- Insert your arm into one of the end openings. Grasp the opposite edge and pull it through the inside of the tube so that the right sides of the fabric are facing, taking care to ensure the fabric doesn’t twist as you pull. When the short ends are even, rotate the snipped end so that the notch you made in step 3 is aligned with the seam on the opposite end. Pin.
- Stitch around the pinned edge with a 1/4” seam allowance, leaving a 3” opening for turning. Turn the piece right-side out through the opening, and hand-stitch the opening shut.
Your infinity scarf is complete!
What I love most about these scarves is how they can instantly and inexpensively punch up any outfit. These can be made so easily, they make terrific gifts, too!
