Of any crafting medium, I have to say that felt ranks among my very favorites. From wearable accessories to home decor, there are countless different ways to create with felt, so when I was recently approached with the opportunity to get a first look at the new book So Pretty! Felt by Amy Palanjian, I was really excited to get some new ideas for inventive ways to use one of my favorite supplies.
This book is a feast for the eye, with colorful, rich photos that truly convey the warmth of felt. I love the fact that the 24 projects vary from detailed to simple, with ideas for every skill level. The step-by-step how-to’s for each project leave no stone unturned, and the projects have a timeless appeal that will make them relevant for many years, even after trends come and go. Also included in the book are comprehensive technique, tool and source guides to help even those with no felt experience feel completely at home.
For parents with young crafters, this would be a terrific book for adding a few projects to your parent-child to-do list! My daughter especially loved the sweet cupcake toppers.
Quite possibly my favorite part about the book is that it is a compilation of projects by various artists, each of whom is profiled in her respective chapter. I love to see how each project reflects the taste and design aesthetic of each distinct artist.
With the end of the school year upon us, I have spent this week preparing handmade gifts for special people in our children’s lives, and this book gave me ample inspiration for doing so! I used one of the techniques found in the book to accent scalloped houndstooth sunglasses cases with a sweet flower embellishment. The full pattern and tutorial for this project will be making an appearance here at PS soon, so stay tuned!
