Do you have some clay pots that have seen better days? Update them with your favorite fabric and some Outdoor Mod Podge! This is the perfect spring craft to complete this weekend, and it would make a terrific gift for any occasion under the sun: Mothers’ Day, teacher appreciation, or even housewarming. Let me show you how it’s done!
When Michaels recently asked me to take part in their Re-Love Blogger challenge, I didn’t hesitate before jumping on board. With Earth Day right around the corner, now is the perfect time to think green when it comes to creative endeavors!
The idea is to take something from around your home–in your garage, attic, or somewhere else entirely–and spruce it up with a bit of crafty TLC. I’ve had the same plain-Jane clay pots sitting in my garage for two years now…
…and I decided this would be the perfect time to really make them pop! All it took was a bit of paint, fabric, and some Outdoor Mod Podge to turn the pots into something beautiful for my front porch.
I first started by spray painting one of my smaller pots a lovely shade of blue. While that was drying, I got started decoupaging the larger pot.
To do so, I cut strips of fabric that were approximately 4″ longer than the pot itself, to allow the strip to overlap the pot at the top and bottom edges. I adhered each strip to the pot with a layer of Outdoor Mod Podge, overlapping the edges of each strip slightly as I worked my way around the pot.
When I had worked all the way around the pot, I folded over the top and bottom edges of the strip, adhering them to the pot with more Mod Podge.
With the top and bottom edges folded over, I applied a nice, thick coat of Mod Podge over the entire surface of the pot.
I allowed 24 hours for the pot to dry completely before stacking my pots in the manner described in my Tiered Terracotta Planter tutorial and then filling the planter with some of my favorite seasonal flowers: hibiscus, pansies, and dusty miller.
I love that I was able to turn these tired pots from my garage into something beautiful with just a bit of creative TLC! They look so terrific in my brand-new gardening nook on my front porch.
Thanks so much to Michaels for inviting me to take part in this fun challenge! Be sure to check out their Lookbook for even more fun ideas to breathe new life into items you already have on hand. The possibilities are endless!
