Made with just a few simple supplies, these eggs are a wonderful way to add a pop of seasonal personality to your home decor. And since they are artificial, you can enjoy these beauties again year after year. Continue reading to see how this project comes together with my handy step-by-step tutorial.
To make these beautiful Gilded DIY Easter Eggs, you will need…
- Plastic crafting eggs
- Acrylic craft paint
- Paint brushes
- Push pins
- Styrofoam sheet
- Liquid gilding adhesive
- Gilding sheets
To begin, paint the surface of the eggs using the craft paint and paint brushes. My secret weapon for painting objects that don’t lie flat: push pins! Insert a push pin into the tip of each egg…
…and then push the pin down into the styrofoam block, as shown, to act as a “stand” for the egg while you paint and as the egg dries.
The push pin can also be used as handle as you paint if you prefer to hold the egg as you work. So handy! Paint the entire surface of each egg with 1-2 coats of paint, and set them aside to dry completely.
When the paint is dry, use a small brush to paint a decorative pattern onto the outer surface of the eggs using the gilding adhesive. Allow the adhesive to dry slightly to a tacky finish, and then use the push pin on the bottom of the egg as a handle as you roll the egg over the surface of the gilding sheet, so that the gilding adheres to the adhesive as you work.
Use a paint brush to carefully brush away any excess gilding.
That’s all it takes to make a collection of beautiful gilded DIY Easter eggs!
I embellished my eggs with a variety of patterns: some more traditional and some more modern and abstract. I love them all!
These beauties can be used as a vase filler, strung on a garland or used to decorate a pretty wreath. There are so many fun options!
